The mention of the Red Herring is the big nostalgia trip for me. They published a page of my poetry around 1994.

Do you have a copy you could post here?

Okay so I dug around and I couldn't find the print edition, but I have the digital copy of the ones I sent them. Not sure this matches exactly the ones they chose to print, but I think it's close.

THE WONDERS OF MYRINIDA

Have you ever heard, child, of a place called Myrinida?

It is a place of wonder and fantasy,

a place where knights fearlessly slay terrible dragons,

a place where heroes are real,

a place where fair maidens ride lovely unicorns...

Oh, wait, that's Divelia.

Myrinida is a meat-packing plant.

Never mind.

SCRATCH MY BELLY

Scratch my belly,

scratch my belly,

scratch my belly,

scratch my belly,

scratch my belly.

What the fuck?

IN MEMORIAM

Eugène Ionesco is gone, but absurdity lives on.

Seriously.

RISING FROM THE ASHES

From the pile of ashes on the ground,

Rises up a majestic figure.

The great bird raises its wings and prepares for flight

As the flames crackle all around it.

It's a big sparrow on fire.

I bet you thought it was a phoenix.

Ha ha, fooled you!

UNTITLED

Tonight our fate depends upon

an avocado,

a lemon peeler,

and a spoon.

Ah, Nature is a cruel master!

Oh man, I'd have to do a bit of digging. Do you mean just here in the comments or as a guest post?

Just in the comments -- i'd love to see it. Was it 1994 for sure? I was the editor in chief in 1992-93.

It might have been 1995 or very late 1993, but I started undergrad in fall 1993 so it definitely wasn't the 1992-3 year - if that's when you have your records from, it won't be in there.

Did you ever read FRANK Magazine?

All the time...

Thanks for giving props to Spy. I remember first finding it on a magazine rack - Elvis Costello was on the cover as a bizman with devil's horns. I'm sure devouring every issue over three years or so is the genesis of my weekly (at least) horrifically astonished reality checks: "Wait a minute - Donald Trump is/was/could again be president???"

I'd forgotten about that -- I used to check it out occasionally. Any idea what he's doing now?

Not sure what he is doing these days. He pops up as a guest on podcasts fairly frequently.

Oh thans -- I forgot to link to that in the body of the text. I'll add that.
