Terry Fox was a real Canadian hero, unlike most politicians.Of course he belongs on our passports or money.

Terry Fox is the very definition of a hero - determined, selfless, accomplishing a great and almost unimaginable feat. But he's someone who I never quite thought of in the way you describe him. Someone who made a deliberate statement about the country itself. Thanks for that.

The only question regarding putting him on our money is why we haven't already done it.

I don't call people "hero" or get choked up often or easily. Terry Fox is the exception on both counts. His achievements are astonishing and inspiring. He's the best of all of us. Put him on ALL of our currency.

I made a point of stopping at the Terry Fox Memorial Park just outside Thunder Bay. I began to cry,for him,us as a Country, and my oldest brother. They both faced the odds and lost. I will always remember them for how they lived their final months. How do we want to be remembered after we are gone? Talk or action? Part of the problems? Part of the solutions?

Mostly well said. We could do without the hilariously, preposterously speculative and cynical notion, stated as fact, that putting Terry Fox’s image on the $5 was somehow to compensate for the fact that the first iteration of our new high-tech passport did not include all the imagery that had been added to the previous one. If there’s proof of that point to it, otherwise why ruin your otherwise nice note with that nonsense?

Anyway, otherwise well done. Thanks for sharing.

I have never read anything better expressing why Terry Fox was such a fine human being and great Canadian. Thank you.

Well said. Except for the bit about TF on the dollar as “obvious damage control.” It suggests a misunderstanding of what happened with the passport and who made the decisions. It is possible that there is a connection but very unlikely and most definitely not “obviously.” I wish we didn’t do this to each other… assume the worst. Otherwise, nice piece. Thank you.

I relate very much to your idea that we all play a part in defining our culture. "Statesmanship can take many forms, and sure, occasionally it looks and sounds like a politician with big ideas and grandiose schemes." Bravo Mr.P.

“I’m going to run through your town, your city, your province, hop step by hop step, mile after agonizing mile, because in some sense you are mine and I am yours, and I have an idea for something I want us to do together.”

That is such a magnificent way of capturing the essence of Terry’s mission and why his story continues to stir our hearts. Well done, Andrew.
